HISTORY OF THE LANDMARK CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
In January 1971, Pastor Mickey Carter became the Pastor of the First Missionary Baptist Church of Haines City, Florida. First Missionary Baptist Christian School was founded in September 1972. The school began with 30 students in kindergarten through third grade. In just two years, the enrollment increased to over 150 students and by 1975 it included kindergarten through twelfth grade with over 220 students. An athletic department was also added that year with membership in the Florida Christian Conference (which it is still a member). May of 1976 saw the first high school graduating class. In the 1978-1979 school year, First Missionary Baptist Christian School was accredited by the Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools for the first time (and still holds accreditation through FACCS).
The summer of 1979 brought a major change as First Missionary Baptist Church became known as Landmark Baptist Church and the school became Landmark Christian School.
After over fifty years, Landmark Christian School has remained a vital ministry of the Landmark Baptist Church and still sees its mission as assisting the Christian home by providing a quality education, both academically and spiritually, in a Christ-honoring and caring atmosphere.
